Why are laptop repair costs so high?

Parts for laptops can be extremely expensive. For this reason, proper diagnosis and troubleshooting are critical.

Often times, a Tech working on the machine can cause even more damage. (No time for horror stories).

Ongoing factory training courses for Service Technicians are costly. This training is extremely valuable to any Technician, particularly since notebook design changes so often.

I state this fact about training as I have had the good fortune of having taught Repair/ Troubleshooting classes for both Toshiba and Compaq Portables. I genuinely believe that the Service Training approach the factories are taking REALLY works.

The biggest complaint I receive about other companies, seems to be the cost of even looking at the laptop. Add to that, the fact that they would rather just sell you a new one, and you have to question the validity of the service.
